Galactooligosaccharides (GOS)Galactooligosaccharides (GOS)
prebiotic
别名: GOS, Trans-Galactooligosaccharides, TOS, Bimuno, Vivinal GOS
About
Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) are prebiotics synthesized from lactose that selectively promote the growth of beneficial Bifidobacterium species. Research suggests GOS may help reduce IBS symptoms including pain, bloating, and flatulence in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, studies indicate that a moderate dose (3.5 g/day) may be more effective than higher doses, which can cause excess fermentation.
How It Works
Synthesized from lactose, resistant to human digestive enzymes; selectively promotes Bifidobacterium growth; reduces pathogenic Clostridium colonization via competitive exclusion; lowers stool pH through SCFA production; enhances calcium absorption.

Side Effects
- Gas and bloating (especially above 5 g/day; dose-response is U-shaped)
- Flatulence at higher doses
- Abdominal cramping if dose increased too quickly
- May worsen symptoms in FODMAP-sensitive individuals
Drug & Supplement Interactions
- Other FODMAPs (cumulative fermentation in sensitive individuals)
- Lactose-containing products (GOS is derived from lactose; generally safe for lactose-intolerant individuals as GOS itself is lactose-free)
