Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is a specially processed form of licorice root with the glycyrrhizin compound removed to prevent aldosterone-like side effects (hypertension, hypokalemia). DGL may help stimulate mucus and bicarbonate secretion in the gastric lining and enhance prostaglandin E2 production, which supports mucosal integrity.
