Peppermint OilPeppermint Oil
herb
Também conhecido como: Mentha x piperita Oil, IBgard, Colpermin, Mintec
About
Peppermint oil is one of the most robustly studied herbal interventions for IBS, supported by Cochrane-quality meta-analyses. Its active component, menthol, blocks calcium channels in intestinal smooth muscle to produce an antispasmodic effect and activates TRPM8 cold receptors that may help reduce visceral pain perception. Research suggests enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules may significantly reduce IBS-related abdominal pain and improve overall symptom scores.
How It Works
Menthol blocks L-type calcium channels in intestinal smooth muscle causing antispasmodic relaxation; activates TRPM8 cold receptors reducing visceral pain perception; speeds early-phase gastric emptying while reducing colonic motility; antimicrobial activity against enteric pathogens.
