Clinical Trial

A research study that tests a supplement or intervention in human participants.

A clinical trial is a prospective research study designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a supplement, drug, or other intervention in human participants. Clinical trials follow structured protocols and progress through phases: Phase I (safety/dosing), Phase II (preliminary efficacy), Phase III (confirmatory), and Phase IV (post-market surveillance). While pharmaceutical drugs must complete all phases before approval, dietary supplements are not required to undergo clinical trials before marketing under DSHEA regulations.
